Beauty Files: Products on My "To-Buy-and-Try" List

I haven't posted anything about beauty products on this blog thus far, but makeup, skincare, perfume, hair products, etc. is my other "hobbie."  I loooooove beauty products and trying out all the great things out there!  There's so many amazing products to make you into whatever you feel like being for the day.  How could you not love it?!  Wanna know how obsessed I am?  I probably go in Ulta (I went today and bought 8 or so products!!) once every week and a half or so, I'm subscribed to 10+ beauty and makeup blogs, and I am starting to have quite a collection of different products.  It's so much fun for me, and it's kind of my "me-time/relaxation time!" (I'm addicted, I know.)

So since this blog is something I do for fun, I wanted to include things like makeup products I love or not, my must-have products, my routines, different looks, reviews, my Birchbox/Ipsy each month, etc.  They might not be as frequently as the home decor posts, but I'll get my kicks of each every now and then where I stick to one subject over the other for a few posts, but I will definitely try and switch it up! :)

On to my list of products I've been eyeing lately and have made it to my list:

via
  1.  beautyblender® : I'm all about trying different brushes and applicators when doing my make-up.  I tried some totally wrong ways and am now just starting to try out all the different brushes/applicators.  I spotted this on VanityRouge (one of my favorite beauty blogs!) and knew I had to give it a try.  $19.95 at Sephora.

via
 2. Benefit Cosmetics - Fakeup : I never knew how much concealer could really do for you when applying makeup.  Covering up blemishes, highlighting, dark circles, etc.  It really is is an amazing product, and should be a must-have in every girls' makeup bag even if your not fan of wearing a lot of makeup.  $24.00 at Ulta.
via

 3.  Yves Saint Laurent Touch Eclat Radiant Touch : Sephora says "A luminizing pen that brings light and radiance to the skin, immediately erases any signs of fatigue, and brightens the complexion."  I recently become obsessed with highlighters, compared to them never being in my makeup routine before.  They are amazing people!! I'm currently using Benefit High Beam, and I couldn't recommend it more!  This will be my next one to try. (It comes in 12 different shades!) $40.00 at Sephora.

via
 4.  Urban Decay Cometics Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Foundation (say that 10 times fast!)  I also spotted this on the lovely VanityRouge and am anxious to try it.  I just started on a tube of Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation, but this will definitely be the next foundation I try.  I love Urban Decay enough as it is, so I'm sure this will be a hit with me!  $39.00 at Ulta.

via
5.  I'm usually not one to really do much with my nails, but spring and summer always make me want to put color on my nails.  VanityRouge did an awesome review on this and made me want to go out and get it immediately.  You put these little beads on your nails for a little touch of sparkle, and let me tell you, it looked awesome.  Thanks VanityRouge for introducing me!  I can't find a website to order them from, but I've heard they've been spotted at Walmart for an affordable price!

That's it for today!  I'm eager to go try out all of my products I got today (body scrub, finishing powder, BB cream, moroccan argan oil shampoo and conditioner, etc!)

Happy Sunday!

Until next time,
-Em

I'm alive!

Y'all.  This crazy thing we call life has seriously gotten in the way lately.  Going to school full time and then going straight to work right after leaves me time for nothing.  As of today at 11:15 a.m., though, I am officially on Spring Break!! Lots more updating coming up.

Anywho, it was nice and sunny outside today so I took some time to take pictures of my bedroom.  It's a "kinda" before because I've already put some new things in there, but at least you'll get to see the space I'm working with.  It's got a long ways to go, and I'll probably never completely finish it given the fact that we are supposed to be moving this summer.

I apologize for the pictures again, but you all should know by now that the quality is shitty.  I swear they look so much better on my phone.  Whatevs.

This picture is taken from in front of the window (yes, I now notice my bed is crooked.)  I just got this bedding from Target not too long ago for $89.99.  I really didn't want white bedding, but I felt like with all the navy and coral going on, that it would balance things out a little bit.  I've always lusted over (I hate duvet covers, though) this bedding from West Elm , and this one from Target was very similar, so I went for it.  So far, I'm happy.  I love the way it looks and the texture it adds to the room, and it definitely keeps us warm at night.  I'm nervous about keeping it clean, though.

I HATE THESE DOORS.  I'm still standing by the window, and if you look at the previous picture, this is the closet to the right.  I'm not going to do anything with these doors, but I figured I'd show them to give everyone an idea of the layout of the room.  That mirror is supposed  to go on top of the dresser, but I'd rather be a lazy ass and sit down and do my makeup in front of it, so that's where it's staying for now. (Pssst, anyone spot a Nate Berkus item I got on clearance for $3.99?!)

To orient yourself, the closet is to the left in this picture.  Here, I am standing in front of the door, and my bed is to the right.  Those navy curtains I bought at Target for $12.99 per panel, and I actually really like the way they look and how much light they block out.  You can see how horrid my dresser is.  Must do something with it.  I've had this bedroom set since I was like 8 years old.  It's lasted that long without much harm or damage, so I guess that's a good thing.  Those white and green fake flowers were from when I lived up in Columbia for college, and I just haven't gotten around to chucking them.  Yes, they're fake.  Kill me now!  That silver tray I scored at Goodwill and absolutely loooove it, and it holds all of my jewelry that I'm too lazy to put back in it's proper place.

This is my favorite part of the room so far, because I love everything in this picture.  That lamp base is Nate Berkus, and I scored it on clearance for $15.00!!  I eyed it when I made a previous Tar-jay (I know I'm not the only one that calls it that) trip, and then went back a week later or so and bought it on clearance.  I didn't like any of the lamp shades they had, and I haven't spotted one I really want yet.  So for now, he just sits there headless.  I love him, nonetheless.  I am LOVING all the good stuff Target has in home decor.  I could probably outfit my whole house in stuff from there.  The candle is a soy candle that smells divine, and I thought it was a nice pop of coral.  The coral I also got from Target for $14.99 (I think) and I thought it was awesome, so I bought it.  More on those swatches in a minute!

So, needless to say, this room is pretty small, as you can see from the pictures.  There is a lot more space than my horrible pictures show, though.  The size doesn't bother me too much because we hardly spend any time in here besides to sleep.  I'm really hoping for a bigger room when we move, though.

As I mentioned at the end of this post, I ordered some fabric swatches from an Etsy store (6 swatches for $2.50: here) and they came in the mail not too long ago.  I want to get some coral pillows and wanted to see what the fabric looked like in person, and I think I've made my decision on which ones I'm going to get.

First, here's all 6 swatches:

And here are the ones I'm 85% sure I'm getting against the navy curtain:

I immediately eliminated the middle one in the 2nd picture, because I just wasn't a fan.  I was really debating between the greek key and the chevron.  I think I'm over the chevron thing now, as I've seen it one too many times in 496784379 and 1 other rooms, so that one was out, too.  The floral pattern in the 2nd picture was out, too, as I felt it had too much white in it.  So, that left me with the other three. I'm thinking of getting one pillow in each pattern, but I don't know if that would be too much.  This is when I really wish I had readers who could give me some advice (my boyfriend isn't much help!)

So, that's where I am, so far.  Looong ways to go, but here's a little list of what I have in mind to do/buy etc. (read: I won't get to even half of it given the fact that we are supposed to be moving in a few months!)

  • Buy new sheets (I'm totally stumped on which color/pattern to get)
  • Order coral pillows
  • Find a lampshade
  • Rug or no rug?  (This room has carpet, but who knows about our next room?  Plus, I feel I could bring in more texture/color with a rug)
  • Find some cool art/DIY some cool art
  • Figure out what the F to do with the dresser and nightstand (paint? stain? have fun destroying and throw away? sell and buy new ones?)
  • Buy a new bed entirely (down the road when I save up some moo-lah)
  • Get rid of the terrible blinds
  • Bring in more texture somehow
  • Accessories, finishing touches, etc.
I think that about covers it.  What do you guys think?  Pleeeeeeeease, if you see this, I beg of you to leave your advice!!  This whole design thing is SO hard, and I'm totally a newbie at it (obviously :D)

Just for funsies, here's a super cute shirt I got for a few bucks at Ross or one of those stores:

I told you I love me some animal print!

Speaking of animal print...

Photo: My new love. Thanks babe <3

O.M.G.  Ross/Marshall's/TJMaxx is kind of Dillon and I's favorite place to go.  As in, we go there multiple times a week.  (Hey, don't judge!)  A few days ago, we randomly went in there and I literally DIED over this real animal fur and leather Badgley Mischka wallet.  It was originally $178.00 and it was on clearance fro $40!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!  I held it close and ran frantically through the store to find my boyfriend and show him my treasure, in which he so sweetly offered (he is seriously the most amazing man) to buy it for me, and I haven't left it out of my sight sense.  IN LOVE.  I justify this purchase by telling myself that I've had my previous wallet for quite a few years, it is too small, and it was disgustingly dirty.  Seriously, people, you have no idea of the treasures you can find in those places if you really look.  I love it!

You guys have no idea how nice it is to just sit here on the couch with no school or work to think about.  Such a luxury for me, now.  Ahhhhh.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to catch up on all my blogs that I've neglected (I literally have 447 new posts on my Google Reader - not. even. kidding.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Until next time,
-Em

Pssst - has anyone read the Game of Thrones books?  I just started the first one and am totally hooked.  So many different characters to keep up with, but I highly recommend it so far.  SO good!  I'm a little bookworm (especially now that I have a tablet and can buy them so easily) so if you have any recommendations, feel free to throw them at me :D

Shopping Trip: HomeGoods

I ventured off to HomeGoods this morning to see if I could find anything good for my bedroom, but also got some great inspiration, too.  I don't get to go there much due to how far away it is, so I always love to see what new things they have.  I didn't buy anything home decor wise, but I did score my Juicy perfume for $30 and a cute animal print shirt :D  I totally didn't need either one of those things but I couldn't resist.  Can't travel all that way and not buy anything, right?!

Here's what I found that I loved:

I know some people might be WAY over tufted furniture, but I'm still in love with it.  I would love this reupholstered in a fun pattern.  I didn't care for the feel of the material on there now, but it was a comfy chair!

I'm not sure how I feel about the shape of this one (or the material) but I still thought it was interesting and fun.

I wasn't a fan of these when I first started seeing them float around the blogosphere, but they've grown on me and I love the vintage vibe they have going on.  HomeGoods had them in a bunch of different colors and patterns.

They also had little miniature sized ones that I thought were super cute for $16.99, I believe.  I might turn around and go get one later this week.

I'm on the hunt for a lamp to go in my room and I liked the base of this one.  HomeGoods has a SLEW of lamps, so if I don't find one at a thrift store or get a good deal on one, I will probably go back and get one from here.  If I was willing to shell out $49.99 for it, I would have gotten it but I'm going to look around a little bit more.

This might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they had quite a few of this fun little tables in different color ways and patterns.  I think I like it, possibly even love it.  I think it would be awesome in a girl's room.

I'm looking for a new end table as well, that is a little more on the "leggier" side, so to speak.  I liked this one (obvi I would paint it a better color) but I didn't like the little tray like part at the bottom.  But it's the best I've found yet.

I loooove this blanket.  I'm leaning towards getting white bedding, so I want a throw with some color to put at the end of the bed.  I was really leaning towards getting this, but it's more of a royal blue than navy.  It was soooo soft though, and only $12.99.  Damn, I'm regretting not getting it now.  I haven't seen one like this at any of the other Marshall's, TJMaxx, Ross, etc.

I think I'm going to put a set of 4 prints or so as the focal point over my bed, and I really liked these.  I always find so many great art pieces at HomeGoods, but the prices are never right to me.  These were $39.99, I believe.  I feel like I could DIY these myself somehow.  You can't really tell from the picture but the navy background is an old vintage-y looking map.  Sweet.

I've been swamped this weekend, so I didn't get much time to work on my room for a before picture.  I've got a paper and a midterm due Tuesday, so as soon as I knock those out of the way, I'll get around to taking some pictures in there.  I did however order these swatches below from this etsy seller, and I'll report back on what I think when they arrive!
Coral Throw Pillows Decorative Coral Pillow Covers, Accent Pillows 18 x 18 Inches Coral Collection Mix and Match
I'm going to be a little random in here and throw a selfie in that I took this morning.  I bought a bunch of makeup and was feeling pretty, but I'm the least photogenic person on the planet.  And I have a lazy eye.  Awesome.
I don't even like this picture, but it was the best one of the ones I took.  Long hair, don't care.  And I love those earrings!!

Pray for me that I don't gauge my eyes out trying to write this paper.  I absolutely despise papers, and I always wait until the last freakin' minute to do them.  OH the joys of being a dental hygiene student.

Happy Sunday!

Until next time,
-Em

Out of It.

Y'all.... blah.  That's all I can muster up to say.  This week has been ROUGH, to say the least.  I haven't had one day where I've felt "normal."  Yuck.

So, I apologize for the lack of posts.  I have made some progress in my navy and coral bedroom (!) but I'm waiting to rearrange some furniture in there before I show a true "before" picture and some things I've bought/made to transition to the idea I have for it!  Exciting, exciting (at least for me.)

In the meantime, I'll be doing this:

via
I'm supposed to have a little girls' night tonight, so hopefully I'll start feeling better.  I'm going to make a cup of coffee on this rainy day and hang out until then (and maybe a workout if I can force myself...oooh.)

I should have an exciting post to share tomorrow or Sunday.  Progress, yippee!

Until next time,

-Em

New Obsession!

Late night rambling.  I'm going to bed shortly, I swear.

I was just catching up on one of my current new finds, Brooklyn Limestone, when I randomly decided to go look at decor for my room.  I gave up on bedding and switched to looking for pillows and curtains and stumbled onto these:

Magical Thinking Falling Leopard Print Curtain: $49.00 from Urban Outfitters

I must must must have them for my bedroom.  I'm 22, I can have leopard curtains right?  I don't care, I'm totally doing it.  Now, if only I could find some cheaper.  If not, I'll splurge on them and decide on the verdict when I get them.  But, I'm totally lusting over these right now.  I was looking for something different and I think I've found it.  Come on, who doesn't love animal print?!

What do you think?

"Say Hello to My Little Friend"

.. I could possibly be way too young for that movie, but whatever.  I hear the saying all the time and it seems fitting for this post.  Remember this little guy that my oh so sweet boyfriend got me for Vday?

He needed a transformation.  Something a little more sassy to match his personality (at least in my mind.)  Without further adieu..

I loves hims.  And he needs a name.  But, I can't think of one posh enough that fits him.  And I deeply apologize for not removing all of that random shit out of the background when I took the picture.  Just keepin' it real.  And I was so damn excited to have completed something that didn't turn out as a complete disaster.  And you can sneak a peek of my horrid nightstand.  Notice, I will not put a full room view of my bedroom, because it is nowhere near blog ready.  Soon, though!  I'm on the hunt for some bigger items to really make an impact like curtains, pillows, bedding, a lamp, and a rug.  HomeGoods shall be my next stop.  Sad thing is, it's like 30 minutes from where I live so I don't get to venture out there too much!

Anywho, the process is so damn simple, but I took pictures, so why not share.  I initially wanted to paint him a bright coral color (making him a she) but when I went to HoPo (thanks Katie Bower - that's Home Depot for all you non-thugs) they didn't have the right coral color I was looking for, so I went with a glossy navy instead.

I'm a total newbie at this whole thing and had no clue whether I should sand him or not first, but I went for it because I noticed a few bumps and rough spots on him.  I used a medium grit sandpaper and went over him.  I wasn't too concerned about getting in all the nooks and crannies.

I'm not sure of what all the good brands are out there, but I found this pack of 4 below at Home Depot for $3.97.  Bam.  Immediately picked it up since all the others around it were like 3 times that.  I thought it was a pretty good deal since it came with a very fine, fine, medium, and coarse piece of sandpaper.  Worked for me!

I gave him a little rub down with a dry washcloth after I lightly sanded him, just to get all the dust and ish off of him!

I knew from reading all of the DIY blogs that I do, that it's best to do light and even coats multiple times instead of heavy and thick coverage once.  I really did try my best to do this, but I don't know that I succeeded.  Anyway, here he is after the first coat.  I used Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch in Gloss Navy Blue.

Crappy picture, I'm sorry.  You can tell if you look closely that he wasn't quite covered.  I did 2 more coats after this, and even though he's not perfect, I'm completely and totally dying over him.  It's my first project, let me feel accomplished!! :)

I'm actually working on a little art project now that I plan on hanging in the bedroom.  I'm also using it to participate in the Pinterest Challenge next week with Katie, Sherry, Megan and Michelle  (whose blogs I'm excited to visit!) Whoop!  So excited to see what everyone does.

Happy Hump Day, y'all!

Until next time,
-Em

Designer Spotlight: Nake Berkus

Side Note: I know everyone wants to gauge their eyes out when their alarm goes off at 6:00 am on a Monday morning as mine did, but today has been the BEST day ever, seriously.  I'm bursting at the seems with accomplishment and I have to share.  I had a really big anatomy exam this morning and was quite nervous going into and I made a damn 101!  The anatomy gods have been good to me.  Not to mention I got my tax return.  Hallelujahhhh! Ah.

Moving on.  I haven't been into this whole design world for long, so I haven't known about Nate Berkus and been able to drool over his work as everyone else has.  But I adore him.  (I thought I read somewhere that his show was no more.. is that fact?)  I like to feature designers that I would die to have work on my home, and I think it's a way of showing my style to anyone who reads this.  These posts are always fun for me, and by the end I have to wipe the drool off my chin :D

I won't go into too much detail on who he is because I know everyone who is interested in this field knows or has heard of him, but here's a little excerpt from his website:

"In 2002 Nate was invited to make over a small space for “The Oprah Winfrey Show," after which he became a featured design expert for the show and continued to garner national press in publications such as Elle Decor, US Weekly, People, O Magazine, Lucky, InStyle and House Beautiful."

Bam.  Thanks Oprah.

Fun fact?  I used to hate anything tufted when I first got into this.  I'm freakin' obsessed with any and all tufts now.  I love seeing my style evolve into what it truly is.  And like one of my favie bloggers, Erin at Elements of Style, anything animal print is golden in my book.  I like to wear it, too!  I like how the colors aren't too crazy but there's still a lot of different textures and things to look at that keep your eye moving.

I would never go for a neutral color palette as much as this one is, but I can't find one thing I don't like.  The nailhead trim on those cocoa brown chairs, the darker more curvy chocolate chair, all the brass accents throughout the room, and I would love to have that brass side table in my bedroom.  And the floors? Come on.  It doesn't get better than that, people!

I've died and gone to heaven.  I mean, it's a room that holds clothes (not one of the most important in a house), but this closet is freakin' fantastic.  The yellow ottoman is the perfect punch of color and the fact that it's tufted just makes it a million and one times better in my book.  The yellow doorknob?  Small detail, but it makes a world of difference in my opinion.  And again with the brass details.  Yum.

Sweet baby Jesus.  I love how calm and serene this space feels.  The pop of the purple flowers is the perfect touch, and that pig makes for an interesting piece.  Oink oink.  I feel like every room should have that unique piece that keeps things interesting and this is a perfect example.  And baby pig on the counter :D

O. M. G.  I would feel like a movie star if I got ready at this vanity every morning.  It's fabulous.  So so glam, and so elegant at the same time!!  Natey (I can call him that right?) is my idol.  Bow down.

Holy chandelier.  That is all.

Such a true talent in the interior design world and if I could be .00002% as talented as Natey in my home, I would be truly happy :D

Mmmmm, love designer posts.  Makes you want to decorate your house, huh?  Watch that bank account!!

Oh yeah!  Tax money = lots of projects/crafting/painting/making of ish coming up.  I have lots and lots of ideas.  AND.. I finally brought a piece in that I got last week for a steal of $40.  I'm not going to be giving it a new life until we actually move into our own place, but I can't wait that long to share it.

I'm not feeling too well so I'm going to finish up The Bachelor, possibly work on a little project, and take my booty to bed!

Until next time,
-Em
