Shopping Trip: HomeGoods

I ventured off to HomeGoods this morning to see if I could find anything good for my bedroom, but also got some great inspiration, too.  I don't get to go there much due to how far away it is, so I always love to see what new things they have.  I didn't buy anything home decor wise, but I did score my Juicy perfume for $30 and a cute animal print shirt :D  I totally didn't need either one of those things but I couldn't resist.  Can't travel all that way and not buy anything, right?!

Here's what I found that I loved:

I know some people might be WAY over tufted furniture, but I'm still in love with it.  I would love this reupholstered in a fun pattern.  I didn't care for the feel of the material on there now, but it was a comfy chair!

I'm not sure how I feel about the shape of this one (or the material) but I still thought it was interesting and fun.

I wasn't a fan of these when I first started seeing them float around the blogosphere, but they've grown on me and I love the vintage vibe they have going on.  HomeGoods had them in a bunch of different colors and patterns.

They also had little miniature sized ones that I thought were super cute for $16.99, I believe.  I might turn around and go get one later this week.

I'm on the hunt for a lamp to go in my room and I liked the base of this one.  HomeGoods has a SLEW of lamps, so if I don't find one at a thrift store or get a good deal on one, I will probably go back and get one from here.  If I was willing to shell out $49.99 for it, I would have gotten it but I'm going to look around a little bit more.

This might not be everyone's cup of tea, but they had quite a few of this fun little tables in different color ways and patterns.  I think I like it, possibly even love it.  I think it would be awesome in a girl's room.

I'm looking for a new end table as well, that is a little more on the "leggier" side, so to speak.  I liked this one (obvi I would paint it a better color) but I didn't like the little tray like part at the bottom.  But it's the best I've found yet.

I loooove this blanket.  I'm leaning towards getting white bedding, so I want a throw with some color to put at the end of the bed.  I was really leaning towards getting this, but it's more of a royal blue than navy.  It was soooo soft though, and only $12.99.  Damn, I'm regretting not getting it now.  I haven't seen one like this at any of the other Marshall's, TJMaxx, Ross, etc.

I think I'm going to put a set of 4 prints or so as the focal point over my bed, and I really liked these.  I always find so many great art pieces at HomeGoods, but the prices are never right to me.  These were $39.99, I believe.  I feel like I could DIY these myself somehow.  You can't really tell from the picture but the navy background is an old vintage-y looking map.  Sweet.

I've been swamped this weekend, so I didn't get much time to work on my room for a before picture.  I've got a paper and a midterm due Tuesday, so as soon as I knock those out of the way, I'll get around to taking some pictures in there.  I did however order these swatches below from this etsy seller, and I'll report back on what I think when they arrive!
Coral Throw Pillows Decorative Coral Pillow Covers, Accent Pillows 18 x 18 Inches Coral Collection Mix and Match
I'm going to be a little random in here and throw a selfie in that I took this morning.  I bought a bunch of makeup and was feeling pretty, but I'm the least photogenic person on the planet.  And I have a lazy eye.  Awesome.
I don't even like this picture, but it was the best one of the ones I took.  Long hair, don't care.  And I love those earrings!!

Pray for me that I don't gauge my eyes out trying to write this paper.  I absolutely despise papers, and I always wait until the last freakin' minute to do them.  OH the joys of being a dental hygiene student.

Happy Sunday!

Out of It.

Y'all.... blah.  That's all I can muster up to say.  This week has been ROUGH, to say the least.  I haven't had one day where I've felt "normal."  Yuck.

So, I apologize for the lack of posts.  I have made some progress in my navy and coral bedroom (!) but I'm waiting to rearrange some furniture in there before I show a true "before" picture and some things I've bought/made to transition to the idea I have for it!  Exciting, exciting (at least for me.)

In the meantime, I'll be doing this:

I'm supposed to have a little girls' night tonight, so hopefully I'll start feeling better.  I'm going to make a cup of coffee on this rainy day and hang out until then (and maybe a workout if I can force myself...oooh.)

I should have an exciting post to share tomorrow or Sunday.  Progress, yippee!

Until next time,

New Obsession!

Late night rambling.  I'm going to bed shortly, I swear.

I was just catching up on one of my current new finds, Brooklyn Limestone, when I randomly decided to go look at decor for my room.  I gave up on bedding and switched to looking for pillows and curtains and stumbled onto these:

Magical Thinking Falling Leopard Print Curtain: $49.00 from Urban Outfitters

I must must must have them for my bedroom.  I'm 22, I can have leopard curtains right?  I don't care, I'm totally doing it.  Now, if only I could find some cheaper.  If not, I'll splurge on them and decide on the verdict when I get them.  But, I'm totally lusting over these right now.  I was looking for something different and I think I've found it.  Come on, who doesn't love animal print?!

What do you think?

"Say Hello to My Little Friend"

.. I could possibly be way too young for that movie, but whatever.  I hear the saying all the time and it seems fitting for this post.  Remember this little guy that my oh so sweet boyfriend got me for Vday?

He needed a transformation.  Something a little more sassy to match his personality (at least in my mind.)  Without further adieu..

I loves hims.  And he needs a name.  But, I can't think of one posh enough that fits him.  And I deeply apologize for not removing all of that random shit out of the background when I took the picture.  Just keepin' it real.  And I was so damn excited to have completed something that didn't turn out as a complete disaster.  And you can sneak a peek of my horrid nightstand.  Notice, I will not put a full room view of my bedroom, because it is nowhere near blog ready.  Soon, though!  I'm on the hunt for some bigger items to really make an impact like curtains, pillows, bedding, a lamp, and a rug.  HomeGoods shall be my next stop.  Sad thing is, it's like 30 minutes from where I live so I don't get to venture out there too much!

Anywho, the process is so damn simple, but I took pictures, so why not share.  I initially wanted to paint him a bright coral color (making him a she) but when I went to HoPo (thanks Katie Bower - that's Home Depot for all you non-thugs) they didn't have the right coral color I was looking for, so I went with a glossy navy instead.

I'm a total newbie at this whole thing and had no clue whether I should sand him or not first, but I went for it because I noticed a few bumps and rough spots on him.  I used a medium grit sandpaper and went over him.  I wasn't too concerned about getting in all the nooks and crannies.

I'm not sure of what all the good brands are out there, but I found this pack of 4 below at Home Depot for $3.97.  Bam.  Immediately picked it up since all the others around it were like 3 times that.  I thought it was a pretty good deal since it came with a very fine, fine, medium, and coarse piece of sandpaper.  Worked for me!

I gave him a little rub down with a dry washcloth after I lightly sanded him, just to get all the dust and ish off of him!

I knew from reading all of the DIY blogs that I do, that it's best to do light and even coats multiple times instead of heavy and thick coverage once.  I really did try my best to do this, but I don't know that I succeeded.  Anyway, here he is after the first coat.  I used Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch in Gloss Navy Blue.

Crappy picture, I'm sorry.  You can tell if you look closely that he wasn't quite covered.  I did 2 more coats after this, and even though he's not perfect, I'm completely and totally dying over him.  It's my first project, let me feel accomplished!! :)

I'm actually working on a little art project now that I plan on hanging in the bedroom.  I'm also using it to participate in the Pinterest Challenge next week with Katie, Sherry, Megan and Michelle  (whose blogs I'm excited to visit!) Whoop!  So excited to see what everyone does.

Happy Hump Day, y'all!

Until next time,

Designer Spotlight: Nake Berkus

Side Note: I know everyone wants to gauge their eyes out when their alarm goes off at 6:00 am on a Monday morning as mine did, but today has been the BEST day ever, seriously.  I'm bursting at the seems with accomplishment and I have to share.  I had a really big anatomy exam this morning and was quite nervous going into and I made a damn 101!  The anatomy gods have been good to me.  Not to mention I got my tax return.  Hallelujahhhh! Ah.

Moving on.  I haven't been into this whole design world for long, so I haven't known about Nate Berkus and been able to drool over his work as everyone else has.  But I adore him.  (I thought I read somewhere that his show was no more.. is that fact?)  I like to feature designers that I would die to have work on my home, and I think it's a way of showing my style to anyone who reads this.  These posts are always fun for me, and by the end I have to wipe the drool off my chin :D

I won't go into too much detail on who he is because I know everyone who is interested in this field knows or has heard of him, but here's a little excerpt from his website:

"In 2002 Nate was invited to make over a small space for “The Oprah Winfrey Show," after which he became a featured design expert for the show and continued to garner national press in publications such as Elle Decor, US Weekly, People, O Magazine, Lucky, InStyle and House Beautiful."

Bam.  Thanks Oprah.

Fun fact?  I used to hate anything tufted when I first got into this.  I'm freakin' obsessed with any and all tufts now.  I love seeing my style evolve into what it truly is.  And like one of my favie bloggers, Erin at Elements of Style, anything animal print is golden in my book.  I like to wear it, too!  I like how the colors aren't too crazy but there's still a lot of different textures and things to look at that keep your eye moving.

I would never go for a neutral color palette as much as this one is, but I can't find one thing I don't like.  The nailhead trim on those cocoa brown chairs, the darker more curvy chocolate chair, all the brass accents throughout the room, and I would love to have that brass side table in my bedroom.  And the floors? Come on.  It doesn't get better than that, people!

I've died and gone to heaven.  I mean, it's a room that holds clothes (not one of the most important in a house), but this closet is freakin' fantastic.  The yellow ottoman is the perfect punch of color and the fact that it's tufted just makes it a million and one times better in my book.  The yellow doorknob?  Small detail, but it makes a world of difference in my opinion.  And again with the brass details.  Yum.

Sweet baby Jesus.  I love how calm and serene this space feels.  The pop of the purple flowers is the perfect touch, and that pig makes for an interesting piece.  Oink oink.  I feel like every room should have that unique piece that keeps things interesting and this is a perfect example.  And baby pig on the counter :D

O. M. G.  I would feel like a movie star if I got ready at this vanity every morning.  It's fabulous.  So so glam, and so elegant at the same time!!  Natey (I can call him that right?) is my idol.  Bow down.

Holy chandelier.  That is all.

Such a true talent in the interior design world and if I could be .00002% as talented as Natey in my home, I would be truly happy :D

Mmmmm, love designer posts.  Makes you want to decorate your house, huh?  Watch that bank account!!

Oh yeah!  Tax money = lots of projects/crafting/painting/making of ish coming up.  I have lots and lots of ideas.  AND.. I finally brought a piece in that I got last week for a steal of $40.  I'm not going to be giving it a new life until we actually move into our own place, but I can't wait that long to share it.

I'm not feeling too well so I'm going to finish up The Bachelor, possibly work on a little project, and take my booty to bed!

Until next time,

Valentine's Day 2013

Whew!  I'm crazy busy with school right now (damn professors are stuffing every test/paper/quiz/project they can in before spring break) and I just worked 10 hours yesterday.  Let's just say I'm going to need a major break after this or I'll be coming to an insane asylum near you.  Kidding :D  But I'm exhausted.

But!  On to our Valentine's Day.  Time for me to be sappy for a moment - Dillon is the absolute sweetest guy in the world.  He has such a kind heart and he would do absolutely anything for the people he loves.  I'm so so appreciative of everything he does for me and I could never in a million years ask for a better man to have by my side than him.  I love you babe!

Due to my life being dominated by school, I woke up at a lovely 8:00 am on Thursday morning and got surprised with this:

The note says "Good morning beautiful! Happy V-day! I love you... love, Dillon :)"
Freakin' tools!!!  Are you kidding me?!  I mean, what girl wouldn't want tools for Valentine's Day - let's be serious.  Goes to show that Dillon knows me oh so well because I can tell you none of my previous boyfriends would have ever known that I would absolutely LOVE that.  I was so freakin' giddy with excitement, I jumped up and down and clapped my hands like a little kid in a candy store.  And a toolbox to put them all in.  I just peed my pants all over again.  :D

And the sweet as can be note left on top left me with a smile on my face for a good 3 hours after that.  Love that man.

He also got me this cute little guy (or girl?  Haven't decided yet):

You can see my attempts at studying the bones of the skull in the background!

My obsession with owls is like no other.  I have another white glittery (subtle) smaller owl and now I'm adding this to my collection.  I also have more than enough owl jewelry than anyone should ever admit to.  I'm not ashamed.  I'm definitely swirling ideas around in my head of painting him a glossy coral color to go in my bedroom.  Stay tuned for that outcome.

And of course, what's V-day without flowers?  Fortunately, my boyfriend knows me well enough NOT to get me traditional red roses.  He did get me roses, but they are a beautiful beautiful color and when the sun hits them a certain way like in the following picture, they are even more gorgeous.  They currently reside as a centerpiece on our kitchen table and they make me smile every time I see them.  Going to try and keep them alive for as long as possible.  And then I''m giving that vase a new life.. er, color.

Last but not least, to top it off, we had lunch at a little place called Perfectly Franks.  It actually appeared on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives on the Food Network (here's a Youtube video if you're interested.)  Oh, yeah.. it's that good.  It's a little diner that makes the best hotdogs on the planet.  They have the most crazy toppings on the hotdog, though.  Like mac and cheese.  Or wrapped in bacon and topped with lettuce and tomato.  And you most def have a 90% chance of getting a heart attack after eating but, OMG, it's so worth it.  I don't regret it a bit.  Dillon actually remembered how much I wanted to eat here after I saw it on the Food Network.  He told me he was taking us to lunch but didn't tell me where and we ended up here.  No, not a romantic, traditional valentine's outing, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

Terrible quality, I apologize.
Quirky and colorful inside.

Why, yes, that is shrimp and feta cheese on hotdogs. via
Overall, it was the perfect day with mah man (minus the school and studying part.)  I hope everyone else had just as perfect of a day.  I'm feeling all lovey dovey again just writing this. :-*

Anywho, I'm going to go try and relax a little bit.  I've got a huge anatomy test on Monday that I will be spending all day today studying for.  Who wants to trade lives with me?!

Until next time,

The finale of Downton Abbey comes on tonight.  I'm dying a little inside just thinking about it being over :(

Where the magic happens, ooooh.

The bedroom.  Yes, that's right.  *blushes*

So, I'm at crossroads.  Surprise, surprise.  If you read this post, you know I royally suck at making any kind of decision.  My problem?

Dillon and I are planning to rent a house together this summer, (we'll have been together over a year - whoa) but I really am so deeply fascinated with this home decor/DIY world that I want to decorate the one I'm currently in.  I've been flip flopping though because it's almost the end of February.. so if I did decorate it, I would just be taking it all apart a few months down the road.  Decision made.  I'm going to work on my current bedroom, but I'm only going to buy/paint/craft/decorate/make things that I can take with me for my bedroom when we move.  And I've changed my color scheme, again.  I feel like this time might actually be permanent.  I've decided to go with a navy and coral bedroom with gold/brass accents.  I don't think it's something I'll get tired of fairly easily, and I also think I can find a lot more accessories to decorate with that fit into this color scheme.  SO, I'm freakin' ecstatic to get started.  I'll go into more detail in a later post (I've got about 4 or so "projects" in the works right now) but I figure I would share some of my badass inspiration photos.

1. centsational girl
2. tobifairley
4. elementsofstyleblog

What do you guys think of the colors?  I'll have to say that I'm truly in love and I'm absolutely ecstatic to get started on some of the projects.  I would love any and all suggestions and tips on how to go about decorating my first room.  I've got a shitload to learn :D Excited for the journey, though!!

Tomorrow I'll share all about my perfect Valentine's Day (minus studying for Anatomy that I'm doing later!) I hope you all have had a fabulous day.  Hugs xoxox

Until next time,

**psst.. I hate blogger, I really do.  I can never get the spacing right in my posts, and today it's not letting me add the links underneath the picture.  So, I apologize.  I put what website I found the picture at though.  I actually just googled coral and navy bedrooms and these are some of the pictures that came up. :D

What exactly does "IndecisivelyMadeUp" mean?

Have you ever stumbled on a blog and wondered how the hell they got that weird ass name?  No?  Well, I do.  And since mine doesn't have a self-explanatory answer, I figured I would try (keyword: try) and explain.  I don't know if you've noticed, but it's hard for me to put what I'm thinking on the computer screen.  I think and think, and think some more, until I over-think and everyone else is left scratching their heads.  Ha, please tell me if I do that nonsense :D

Because of my "over-thinking," it's hard for me to make decisions.  Like, major decisions.  I've changed my major in college count 'em: 1 time, 2 times, 3, 4, 5, ...... annnnnd 6.  Yeah, I know.  But I can say I'm confident in the field that I'm in now.  I've never been so sure.  Bad thing is, I'll have been in college 9 years before I graduate.  Ehhh, whatever.  Rackin' up them student loans.  Everyone in my generation has them these days because college is too damn expensive!! (And tuition continually goes up every year!)

Another thing, I cannot decided where the hell I want to live.  Or what kind of house I'm willing to shell out the big bucks for.  And don't even get me started on decorating.  I've changed the color scheme in my room 3 times and am still not sure if I'm sticking with the one I have now.  I'm just indecisive as fuck.  And sometimes, it's really annyoying.

Onto the "MadeUp" part.  I'm done with all that mumbo jumbo above (read: ^^^.)  I finally feel like my life is beginning now.  I've settled on the career that I want to be in for the rest of my life.  I feel like all the other major events in life will just fall into place after that.  Like puzzle pieces.  I've finally made the most important decision of my life at this time and that is what career field I'm going into.  Now that I'm truly happy with that decision, I've noticed it directly affects the way I study and the grades I make.  Not to brag, (okay, I'm totally bragging) but I've had 5 Anatomy Lab quizzes and 3 Anatomy Lecture quizzes.. and have only missed 1 question out of all 8 quizzes.  Smartie pants over here.  I'm just happy now with school and it makes me a happy girl in general.  It's really a great feeling!!  On Friday, I have a lab quiz on ALL the skull bones and markings.  And Monday is Exam 2 in lecture.  Eeeeek, wish me luck!  ANATOMY/PHYSIOLOGY IS HARD Y'ALL.  Now I know I could never be a doctor.

I know I've been Ms. Chatty Cathy and kind of went overboard with personal stories in explaining my blog name, but I hope this gives you a general idea of what it means and how it explains who I am.  :)

Now onto a totally different subject:

How cute are these?  I'll have to try them out next year :D
Enjoy the day of love tomorrow!!  Dillon went shopping today for me and whatever he got must be really great.  He is like a kid on Christmas, he's so excited to give it to me.  He keeps exclaiming: "I can't wait to give it to you.  You're gonna love it."  He pretty much told me what he got me on Christmas, haha.  He's so cute!

So with that, Happy Valentine's Day!  I wish you all the hugs and kisses (and flowers!) in the world.

Until next time,

Broke Kids on the Hunt.

House hunting that is!

Dillon and I have planned for a while to save up and get our own place this summer.  I'm itching to actually decorate my OWN home and do what I want to it.  Plus, we'll be able to walk around naked whenever we want ;) Just kidding.  But, I seriously can't wait until we find something.

I'm 22 and Dillon is 26, we're both in college, and we both work in restaurants (read: not a lot of money.)  We are trying to set our budget at about $900/month + utilities (though I would like the rent to be as cheap as possible without being a shit hole.)  Believe it or not, you can find some pretty reasonable houses out here for that price.  If any one reads this, I'm curious to know how much it would be where you live!  I know cost of living is way cheap here compared to other places.

We finally got down to business the other night and discussed what we absolutely wanted, and what would be nice to have.  There aren't a lot of houses for rent to start with, so we know we are going to have to make some sacrifices.  Here's what we came up with:

  1. We are looking for a house.  No apartment, condo, townhome, duplex, etc.  I'm used to living in apartments through my college years so I don't mind it, but Dillon really doesn't want to be surrounded by people that we can hear through our walls 24/7.  And we would have a little bit more freedom when it comes to decorating.  So this is our number 1 priority.
  2. 2 bedrooms.  We have two beds that are most definitely coming with us, so we need rooms to put them in.  It would be nice to have somewhere for our guests to stay, as well.  I would really like 3 bedrooms, so I could make one an office/project space, but that can wait until we actually work towards owning a home.
  3. Appliances.  We most definitely do not have a budget set to buy appliances.  So, we are looking for a house that has a refrigerator, stove, and dishwasher.
  4. Pets allowed.  This isn't really a must, but I really really really want somewhere that will allow us to have pets.  I don't care about a non-refundable pet fee.  I want a dog, dammit!  And a kitty, even though Dillon is a cat hater.  Hmph.
  5. Fixer upper.  We aren't looking for something move in ready and super fancy.  I'm going to make Dillon into my little handy man, he just doesn't know it yet.  We are both open to moving somewhere that needs a little bit of work.  Since we are going to be renting, we aren't going to do any super major renovations, but I want to be able to paint walls, trim, kitchen cabinets, change light fixtures, etc.
  1. Washer and dryer included.  Like I said, we are trying to avoid buying any major appliances at all costs since we are already going to have to buy most of the furniture.  I've found a few options that have these included, so it's not impossible.
  2. Fenced in yard.  For our pets, duh!
  3. Hardwood floors.  I'm so over carpet.  I hate vacuuming, I hate how it gets dirty so easily, and I love how awesome hardwood floors can look in a home.   I'll even compromise for laminate.. just no carpet, please!
  4. At least 1.5 baths.  Dillon and I currently use the bathroom that we also have to share with guests whenever they come over.  It's really a pain in the ass.  You all know how it is.  I want our own bathroom!
I'm sure there's more, but this is just a start.  I've been scouring Craigslist and various other sources for a long time now, but since it's nearing the end of February, we've really got to buckle down and be on the look-out if we want to have our own place by summer.  Eeeeek, I'm so excited just thinking about all the decorating and DIY's I'll be able to do!

Since blog posts without pictures royally suck, I though I would post a few exterior pictures of houses we've seen that we love.  They'll most likely be taken by the time we are looking to move, but this gives you a general idea of the type of housing around here that fits in our budget (keep in mind that we are looking for a fixer upper and some of these don't look very pretty right now :))  Enjoy!

$975/month.  Over budget, but I loooove it.

It's definitely going to be tough to find something that fits in our budget, but I think starting early and really knowing what we want is going to help us find the perfect place.  Wish us luck.  And if you have any tips, please share!!

Until next time,

Designer Spotlight: Lee Ann Thornton

'Ello! (said in my Downton Abbey accent*)

Dillon's dad usually checks the mail when he gets home from work, and kindly ALWAYS forgets to give me my magazines that I literally almost die waiting for each month (House Beautiful and Elle Decor - posts on each coming soon!)  I just glanced over my House Beautiful magazine and fell in love with yet another (I'm sure some of you have heard of her) fabulous designer: Lee Ann Thornton.

A little about her from her website: "In 2003 her design firm was launched in Greenwich Connecticut, specializing in high-end residential projects. Lee Ann is known for her detail oriented, luxurious and refined taste while reflecting each client’s lifestyle and needs."

I literally clicked on her portfolio and gasped and died each time I clicked on to a new photo.  I loooooove everything about her designs so much, that I would literally move in a house completely designed by her without even seeing it.  SHE'S BRILLIANT.  Let's all admire:

I DREAM of having a ladder in my office one day.

I love light blue in rooms and there is NO love like what I have for animal print.  I want those pillows, stat.

Uhm, the wallpaper?  And those chairs?  I don't think I need to say anymore.

That light makes my heart beat abnormally fast.  I'm in love.

This, to me, is perfection.

I think her work looks to be put together so effortlessly.  Her use of patterns, textures, and colors all work together so well and I love how there is always something to look at and admire.  This girl has pure talent.

Check her out if you haven't already - tons more pictures on her website to drool over.  It was so hard not to post every damn one of them on here!

Until next time,

*I usually DVR all of my shows and catch up to them when I have free time.  I watched about 45 minutes of Downton Abbey from last night.. and all I can say is: Bates is home!! Yippee!! Also that whole situation with James, the footman, and Mr. Barrow (sp?) is just plain weird.  And is it just me, or do you not HATE when people spell it Downtown Abbey?  Drives me nuts.

All pictures and design by Lee Ann Thornton.
